Enduro Engineering Tech Tip: Check Your Wheel Bearings

Wheel bearings are often overlooked. Why? Mostly because they don’t give you any trouble UNTIL they completely fail. And if you’ve run them to failure, chances are you have destroyed your hub also. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to come to that. Make a habit of checking your wheel bearings every time you install a new tire or adjust your chain or just have the bike on a stand with the wheels off the ground. It only takes a couple of minutes.
To check wheel bearings it is best to have the wheels up off the ground. Just grab the tire with one hand at the six o’clock position and the other at the 12 o’clock position. Now try to move the wheel from side to side. If you can move it, you have worn wheel bearings. And you should replace them as soon as possible.
